I have used FineReader version 8.0, 9.0 and now 10.0 This is a real upgrade and so easy and 'intutive' to use. I edit our Church Magazine and time and again FineReader has proved a life saver for me. People still hand me pieces of paper with their art work or article on. As we now produce the magazine `digitally' hardcopy is no longer of any use, but a few moments with the scanner and a very accurate result with no trouble and a good piece of editable text or artwork. FineReader 10 Professional is a great product for a competitive price.

I first bought Finereader Pro 5.0, with the Cyrillic option, after abandoning Omnipage. Rumour had it that it was developed by the KGB! It certainly did a good job on Cyrillic. I've bought every version since. FR8 was probably the best up to that point, and was a solid piece of software. The improvements in OCR quality were mostly incremental.

Finereader 9 was a considerable improvement on English OCR -- a step change. But the user interface was degraded somewhat. For instance, in FR8, as you scanned each page, the new page image was displayed on-screen. That meant you could see at once if there was a problem with the scan of the last page, and you could stop and fix it. In FR9 they decided to keep you stuck on page 1. You didn't change page unless you clicked on the thumbnail for the next page. This was really very unpleasant.

Finereader 10 is another step in the same direction. I don't think the OCR is markedly better, in the way it was from FR8 to 9; more incremental. But the user interface is worse still.

One essential in every OCR package is to display the text onscreen so you can proof it. For that purpose, the text has to be broken up by line, so that it matches the layout on page. When you export to Word or whatever, of course, you want those line breaks to disappear; but not until then. Just try finding dodgy text if you can't see where the line ends are!

Every version of Finereader up to and including FR9 understands this. Not FR10! It just runs all the text together in a window on-screen. It's hopeless to proof the text in.

And remember the "stuck on page 1" problem, introduced in FR9? Well in FR10 they've made it worse yet! They open a modal dialog box onscreen during the scan, so you CANNOT change page, not even manually.

I've ended up with FR8, FR9 and FR10 on my system. I tend to scan in the stuff under FR8, and edit the page images in that. FR8 does that better than any subsequent version. It also allows me to scan at 400 dpi; the same scanner is not allowed to do so in FR9 or 10! Somehow Abbyy's designers have decided to enforce something that the scanner does not! I keep FR9 because it handles colour better than FR8, and because the OCR is better. I have FR10 because... um... well... because I always upgrade. Oh yes; and it exports PDF's much better than FR9 does.

It's sad to see a good product going downhill. But the underlying engine is superb, at least for English.

Not quite certain that it is as good as it was for French. I had a funny experience this evening with some very clear 600 dpi pages, which were worse in FR10 than FR9. Mind you, I find FR9 is certainly better than FR8 on the same images!

Had to ring the help line twice in order to link FineReader with MS Word. On doing some copying I found that the date format had been changed to the American format i.e. 08-20-2010 instead of 20-08-2010. I tried the help desk, (which I think is in Germany), but we appear to have difficulties in translation and I have given up and reverted to ScanSoft omni page pro.

Really pleased with this speedy office printer which was bought for my home network. Even on plain paper the hp toner has a real shine which makes both text and pictures really stand out. Perviously I would never have considered using a laser to print photos to put in frames, but with the right paper the results are very impressive. Although the toner carts aren't cheap the cost per page is good compared with inkjet and entry level colour lasers.

Bought this printer about 2 months ago. I had read mixed reviews so was a little unsure but thought that I had HP printers before and they had always been good. If you want fast reliable network coloured printing then this printer is great. The toner monitor draws your attention to consumption so I think people tend to notice it more (as with some of the reviews I read before purchasing). Would certainly recommend for A4 everyday coloured office needs. If you are looking for photo quality you really need to buy a photo printer - Epson are brilliant - try the R800 (up to A4) or the R2880 (up to A3+).HP Color LaserJet CP2025n Network Colour Laser Printer

I've recently made the change from inkjet to Laser due to running cost, the laser is far cheaper in the long run.
I Read many reviews before purchasing this printer and so far I'm impressed.
This printer is not compact but not too large either considering its a Colour LaserJet. Build quality is pretty good also.
Setup was very easy, I did this over a home Cat5 (Ethernet) network. 10-15 minutes to setup using the web browser interface which has a whole host of basic to advanced configuration settings.
In terms of print speed its not the fastest out there but its far from being slow, I would say about average for size and type.
The actual print quality is where this printer really stands out. Colours are strong and vibrant and text is very sharp and defined.
The cost of toner is about average in terms of general toner prices for laserJets. I found them cheapest on amazon.

The only problem I've has so far is page curl also pointed out by another reviewer.(this is caused by fuser applying heat to the paper during printing process).
while this is a very common issue with all laser printers (some might say normal) I thought the paper curl was excessive, Not a huge problem as it can be quickly sorted by reducing fuser temps in the configuration settings.It Now prints fine.

I've seen cheaper colour laser printers in the same range but I strongly believe you get what you pay for and this LaserJet looks, feels and most importantly prints like a quality machine.

As an all-in-one, this appears to be pretty good. It is smooth, prints well (on the limited printing I have done) and looks good to boot. The issue I have is that I bought it due to the Airprint function as I want to be able to print easily from my IPad2. While it was very easy to get wirelessly printing from my Mac, i am yet to be able to print from my IPad. The IPad can not find the printer. I have tried all the standard troubleshooting issues - right network, router, turned off and on.....yet the Ipad can not find it. I have read something on google about firmware? Maybe this is the problem but I fail to understand how a latest release printer that has been produced for AIrprint could need firmware. Still, I have looked and there does not appear to be anything new to download....in any event, I wouldn't even know HOW to get the firmware onto the printer even if it was out there as instructions about such things are always written in language only people who do this sort of thing all the time can understand. Why is information for the domestic market written in such a random, complex and technical way????? I have contacted Canon support and am hoping they will help....one day.....at least it looks nice......

Bought it as a replacement for my previous printer (Canon iP 3000) and scanner(Epson). Wow!!! It has more than exceded expectations.Product set-up was easy enough to deal with, however, I still do not like the fact that manufacturers do not produce instruction manuals . . . .but, I understand why! When customers spend a lot of money on Canon products,this penny-pinching is most irritating.Cannot fault the quality of any of the functions. Would recommend it to anyone.

I do not often write reviews but I am sick of people writing reviews based on their incompetences rather than shortcomings in the product. How can you base your decision on whether to buy a product because somebody else cannot be bothered to set it up properly or do some research! We all have different levels of experience and knowledge but if you want to buy and use properly any decent piece of technology equipment, you have to be prepared to learn about it. I am just a normal home user with average knowledge using Apple equipment. This printer is amazing! It is bigger than I expected but neat and very versatile. Yes it does have AirPrint but you have to download an update from the Canon website. Very easy to do,
When you register your product, click through to the product page and you will find the firmware update. Don't worry about which version you currently have, it will tell you if your product is up to date or not when you connect it. Just connect it to your computer with a USB printer cable. They don't supply one but you will have one connected to your old printer!
Please don't let the thought of connecting your printer to the computer by cable for five minutes put you off buying this printer. It works beautifully. Practically every product you buy these days needs a software or firmware update after you have bought them because of the time they spend in a box. If you have never done an update you are probably perfectly happy running an older version, if you want up to the minute features like AirPrint, then you may have to do an update. Yes there are other printers out there with AirPrint already set up but do compare the technical details rather than just go for the easy option. The scanner quality on this printer is much better than any other "AirPrint ready" printer I could find as is the print quality. Depends what you want. If you are looking at a printer in this price bracket you are probably looking for more than a basic AirPrint printer. if you do not intend to use AirPrint anyway then you will not need the update in any case!
The print quality is amazing the scan output is excellent and you have a 35mm negative scanner built in. Yes the inks are expensive but you get what you pay for. Ink consumption depends on what you are printing! If you print full colour best quality for everything your costs will be higher. Be prepared to learn to adjust the settings depending on what you are printing and consumption is no worse than any other high end printer.
Canon do provide software you may not need, but a lot of it is very useful again depends on your needs. If you don't need it, just delete it, I would rather have the choice rather than no software. There is a manual on the disc provided which you can download. Very comprehensive and useful.
There are full set up instructions provided, you do not need the manual until after the set up procedure so don't worry about it being on disk. Just allow yourself some quiet time, follow the step by step sheet and you will love this printer. The quality you can achieve is far greater than many similar products out there.

An English Manual Would have helped, 26 May 2011

Previously used a QL-550 for many years and the 650TD is a replacement now it has finally died. My only issue is that the manual supplied was in Spanish, Portuguese, French and Dutch which is not helpful. However the Brother Web Site was one of the better and downloading the manual was very easy. Another excellent product.
